What Warehouse Positions Are There?

Logisticians resort to warehouse storage in cases where:

  • The cargo will be sent a little later than when the supplier delivered it;
  • "Seamless" deliveries failed, and containers are being transferred from one transport to another or there are several days between shipments, and the goods cannot be stored in the trucks;
  • Containers are delayed at customs;
  • The goods arrive at the destination point earlier than the consignee arrives to collect them.

This list is not exhaustive. Therefore, information about who works in a warehouse, positions, responsibilities, and salary levels may be useful not only to logisticians and consignees but also to those considering full-time work or a part-time job. Let’s start with salaries. In this industry, they are quite high, but it’s important to note that the level of material responsibility is also very high.

Responsibilities of Warehouse Workers Include:

  • Receiving goods;
  • Sorting;
  • Assembling;
  • Packing;
  • Storing them in accordance with conditions;
  • Inventory.

Employers expect to see skills such as responsibility, absence of bad habits, attentiveness, skills in operating loading and unloading equipment, and PC skills. Plus, good physical fitness.

What Positions Can You Have in a Warehouse?

It’s not just about loaders. More precisely, each worker should be ready to become a loader if necessary, but there is still a narrower division of labor.

Warehouse staff positions include:

  • Warehouse manager;
  • Department heads (usually senior warehouse clerks);
  • Pickers and packers;
  • Sorters;
  • Drivers;
  • Loaders.

Warehouse Staff Structure:

  • Management;
  • Specialists;
  • Main staff;
  • Loaders, drivers, etc.;
  • Guards, janitors.

As we can see, not every profession requires special education. Typically, those with higher or specialized education are managers and specialists (accountants, economists, lawyers).
Main staff (warehouse workers and expeditors), service staff (janitors and guards), as well as warehouse workers are usually people with secondary or incomplete higher education. Here, the key requirements are good physical condition, responsibility, and absence of bad habits.
